Copenhagen is famed for great design, architecture, sustainability, and fashion. I chose to study abroad there because I wanted to live the Danish way and source inspiration for my own design practice, style, and way of living. I took courses outside of my usual, like New Nordic Design and Digital Media in Marketing, and worked on some fun projects like the ones below.

patagonia creative brief
My team was tasked with a mock strategic campaign for Patagonia, and among the deliverables was a creative brief presentation summarizing our research on users (being other students in the study abroad program), demonstrating understanding of Patagonia’s history, philosophy, and stakeholders, and identifying market position in four key success factors. We analyzed past, present, and upcoming Patagonia campaigns to launch a relevant social media campaign — then we got to the fun part which was filming two long-form videos (I’ll spare you from watching those, our acting was not quite there). I designed the pitch deck, came up the strategic campaign objective, did the campaign analysis, and edited the videos.

My New Nordic Design course taught all of the facets of Scandinavian culture, from food to film. We studied local architecture and the many architectural geniuses that arose from Scandinavia, shaping functionalism and modernism. My favorite field trip was to Louis Poulsen, home to the lighting that is completely embedded into Danish culture. We also saw icons like the Finn Juhl house, Tietgen residence hall, and Mærsk tower.
This poster project embodies all the ideas we talked about at a high level, and I love looking back on it and remembering how inspired I felt attending that class, and how deeply Scandinavian design resonated with my own design philosophy.
